Werba: “ Happy to have been on the American set of ‘The Three Killer Pigs’ ”

Updated: Dec 18, 2024

The composer and conductor Marco Werba has just returned from Los Angeles, after spending a few days on the set of the new horror film “The Three Killer Pigs”, in which the famous musician, author of many successful musics - including “Giallo” by Dario Argento – will sign the soundtrack. The music publisher will be Jacques Dejean (Plaza Mayor Company) and the recording and mixing will take place in the Stone Recording Studio in Rome, by Marco Streccioni and Gabriele Conti. The Christmas song of the film is performed by the young Sara Werblowsky, while for the closing credits the same song will be performed by an older singer.

Marco Werba and Thomas Churchill

Confirmed by Werba himself the name of the crossover soprano Lucia Rubedo, known for having participated in the program “Tu si que vales” in the 2024 edition. The film wants to be a tribute to Italian genre films, and is written and directed by Thomas J. Churchill (Amityville Uprising), and is produced by Aleksandra Zorich Hunt. The cast includes very well-known names, such as Anson Williams (who everyone remembers for the role of Warren “Potsie” Weber in the series Happy Days, and who is actually also the director of many episodes of some of the most famous television series, such as Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, Charmed, Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Star Trek Voyager) and Brian Austin Green (actor and producer both in television and film, made famous by the role of David Silver in the cult TV series of the nineties Beverly Hills 90210). The photography is by David M. Parks, with the special FX creature design by Marcel Banks and Anaglyph Studios. There are very few rumors about the plot of this movie, whose filming has just finished.

The mystery remains. What does Maestro Werba could tell us more about his latest professional effort?

Marco Werba

Marco Werba:

“Since I was a boy I have been interested in genre films. I often went to the “Planetarium” cinema (which no longer exists), in Piazza Esedra (Italy), where I watched science fiction movies such as “War of the Worlds” and “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”.  When I became a composer I had the chance to work for genre films (especially thrillers and horror movies) such as “Darkness surrounds Roberta” by Giovanni Pianigiani, “Beast” by Timo Rose, “Giallo” by Dario Argento, “Mr Hush” by David Lee Madison, “Native” by John Real (Italian Golden Globes), “The Inflicted” by Mattthan Harris, “Jack Attack” by Bryan Norton and Antonio Padovan, “Pop Black Posta” by Marco Pollini, “Stay pretty, no pity” by Wilco Rullens, “A Kidnap” by Lee Greenhough, “Vertical” by Maryam  Pirband, “Daemon Mind” by Jason Fité, “Dimension Slip” by Barbara Toschi (Best score award 2024), “Dig Me No Grave” by Ranjeet Marwa, “White Crow” by George Threadgold and now “The Three Killer Pigs” by Thomas Churchill. Thomas starred in the film “Mr Hush” and after several years he contacted me to write the music of his new movie. We first spoke on zoom together with producer Aleksandra Hunt and we immediately found ourselves in tune on the type of music for his horror movie. Thomas is also a fan of the soundtracks of the 70s and 80s such as “Amityville horror” by Lalo Schifrin, “The exorcist” by Mike Oldfield, “The Omen” by Jerry Goldsmith and “The Thing” by Ennio Morricone.  Thomas is also a fan of Dario Argento's movies and appreciated the music I wrote for “Giallo”. For this film I have already written three music themes (a Christmas song, a theme for the three main characters and a tense action piece. I then decided to go on set to meet Thomas Churchill and Aleksandra Hunt in person and also to meet the actors of the film and get in tune with the atmosphere of the movie.

I must say that both the crew and the actors showed professionalism and passion. I was

very impressed by the acting of Anson Williams, James Pratt, Jody Quigley, Richard Gabay, Robert Carradine, Tony Crosetti, Rachel Pizzolato and Alyssa Mei Li.

Working on a film is very demanding and the audience is not aware of the dynamics behind the making of a movie. We often worked on set until one in the morning to complete the film on time. I am glad I attended the shooting because I had new music ideas to develop while writing the film score”.
